Panaji/IBNS, Aug. 19 -- The Goa government has approached the Supreme Court seeking life imprisonment for former Tehelka magazine editor Tarun Tejpal, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a 2013 rape case, Live Law reported.

State seeks only modification of sentence

The Goa government has clarified that its plea seeks only a modification in the quantum of punishment and does not seek to reopen the case.

The Bombay High Court recently convicted Tejpal in the case, overturning his acquittal by a Sessions Court in 2021.
