Kolkata/IBNS, May 15 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday resigned as the MLA from Nandigram in accordance with constitutional norms after winning from two assembly constituencies in the 2026 state elections.

The Chief Minister assured voters in Nandigram that he would continue to personally monitor developments in his political stronghold despite stepping down as MLA from the constituency.

Adhikari had defeated his immediate predecessor and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by more than 1,500 votes.

He took oath as Chief Minister on May 9 at Brigade Parade Ground in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders, and several NDA chief ministers...
