India, Sept. 21 -- Tension gripped Gujarat's Himmatnagar on Monday after a speeding Scorpio allegedly crashed into a group of pilgrims walking along a busy highway, killing one person and injuring more than 10 others.

The incident took place near the Dolgarh-Patiya highway intersection, where at least 12 pilgrims were reportedly struck by the vehicle while walking along the four-lane road.

An angry crowd then attacked the driver and set the Scorpio on fire.

Videos from the spot showed the SUV engulfed in flames, with thick plumes of smoke rising above the highway.
