India, Aug. 16 -- Veteran Bengali filmmaker Raja Sen, a three-time National Film Award winner, died at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Sunday after prolonged illness. He was 71. Sen had been undergoing treatment for multiple complications involving his lungs, heart and kidneys and was on ventilator support.

Sen made his feature-film debut with Damu (1996), which won the National Film Award for Best Children's Film.

His other notable works include Atmiyo Swajan, Desh, Debipaksha, Krishnakant er Will, Laboratory and Maya Mridanga.

He also made acclaimed documentaries and worked extensively in Bengali television.
