India, Sept. 13 -- The vegetarian menu served at the grand dinner hosted for BRICS leaders in New Delhi has triggered a political debate, with opposition leaders questioning the decision to showcase only vegetarian dishes at the high-profile event.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a dig at the government in a post on X, highlighting India's diverse food preferences.

"For the record: 80% of Indians are non-vegetarian," Gandhi wrote, adding that "Indian non-vegetarian food is delicious," before referring to his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's chole bhature.

Congress leader Pawan Khera also criticised the Centre over the menu, accusing the BJP-led government of imposing its dietary preferences on others.
