India, Aug. 3 -- Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor made a remarkable electoral debut on Monday, defeating the BJP's Neeraj Kumar Sinha to win the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar.

Kishor secured victory by a margin of 18,953 votes, marking Jan Suraaj's first-ever electoral triumph since the party's formation.

The result also ended the BJP's 35-year hold over the Bankipur Assembly constituency, which had remained a saffron bastion since 1995.

"The poll sent a strong message to the central leadership of the BJP that they should make a good person as CM of Bihar," he told reporters in his first reaction after the victory.
