India, May 31 -- Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was allegedly attacked outside the Chanditala Police Station in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Saturday when he arrived to submit a memorandum protesting the arrest of party workers following the recent Assembly elections.

The incident comes just a day after TMC national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly attacked in Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas, a region once considered a Trinamool Congress stronghold.

Tension escalated outside the police station as a crowd gathered, waving black flags and shouting "thief" slogans upon seeing Kalyan Banerjee.

The Serampore MP claimed he suffered a head injury during the confrontation.
