Kolkata/IBNS, May 16 -- Almost a week into governance, the inaugural Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is yet to announce the Finance Minister as part of the cabinet expansion.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari along with five other ministers took oath at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on May 9.

Within days, Adhikari distributed portfolios among his colleagues while retaining the Home Department himself.

Speculation over Finance Minister post

With economist and former BJP MLA Ashok Lahiri joining the NITI Aayog, speculation had grown over newly-elected lawmaker Swapan Dasgupta taking charge as the Finance Minister. However, that possibility now appears to be fading.
