India, April 8 -- The political climate in Assam has intensified ahead of the Assembly elections, with state police searching for Congress leader Pawan Khera following his allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife, media reports said.

He also accused her of owning undisclosed luxury properties in Dubai and having links to a company in Wyoming, United States.

A team of Assam Police reached Khera's residence in Nizamuddin East in New Delhi.

Barricades have been placed outside Khera's residence in Hyderabad, with local police under the Congress government stating they would cooperate with Assam Police upon receiving a formal notice.

Khera may approach the court seeking relief from arrest, reports added.
