India, March 1 -- At least nine people died and 20 others were injured after protests erupted near the US Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, on Sunday over the reported death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to media reports.
The casualties were reported following clashes between security personnel and demonstrators.
According to reports, hundreds of pro-Iran protesters attempted to storm the consulate early Sunday morning, hours after news of Khamenei's death was confirmed.
Security forces allegedly opened fire to disperse the crowd, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
