India, March 4 -- In a development that could mark the end of an era in Bihar politics, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is likely to move to the Rajya Sabha, with the BJP poised to take over the top post in the state, NDTV reported, quoting sources.

According to senior leaders in his party, the Janata Dal (United), Kumar is expected to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to be present during the filing, signalling the significance of the transition.

Sources suggest Kumar could resign as early as next week.
