India, Sept. 23 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Canada in December, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Tuesday, as the two countries seek to conclude a trade agreement by the end of this year.

Carney said India and Canada were making progress in negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

"We're making good progress in our trade negotiations with India," Carney said on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, as quoted by CBC.

"[Modi] will be visiting Canada around that time," Carney said. "I very much look forward to hosting him."
