Mumbai/IBNS, Sept. 21 -- Veteran Bengali actor Mithu Mukherjee, best known for her performance in Mouchak opposite Ranjit Mallick, has died at the age of 71 after battling cancer, media reports said.

Mukherjee, who was a popular face on the Bengali silver screen from the 1970s to 1990, died at a private hospital in Mumbai.

Away from films, Mukherjee had reportedly moved to Mumbai permanently after selling her residence in Kolkata.

Mukherjee made her Bengali film debut with Chitta Bose's Shesh Parba in the early 1970s.
