India, Sept. 13 -- Thirteen Indian seafarers have been rescued after a commercial vessel carrying them came under attack off the coast of Oman, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The MEA identified the vessel as MT El Gaia and said 14 Indian crew members were onboard at the time of the incident.

Search and rescue operations are continuing for the remaining Indian national who is still missing, the MEA said.

The MEA also called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the region and urged all sides to pursue dialogue and diplomacy.

The Ministry further called for the restoration of safe maritime movement and international trade routes in the region.
