India, Aug. 3 -- Facebook parent Meta has come under sharp criticism from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology after the temporary removal of a video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with panel chairman Nishikant Dubey saying the company's apology is insufficient unless accountability is fixed and legal action follows.

Dubey said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg should personally apologise for the incident, warning that the company could face consequences over its safe harbour protections if it fails to do so.

Safe harbour provisions under Indian law protect online platforms from liability for third-party content, provided they comply with due diligence requirements.
