Bengaluru/IBNS, May 28 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday announced his decision to step down, signalling a major leadership transition in the Congress-ruled state and bringing an apparent end to the prolonged tussle with deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, media reports said.

The development comes after two days of intense deliberations involving the Congress high command in New Delhi.

The Congress leadership reportedly favoured Siddaramaiah's exit from the Chief Minister's post and offered a compensation package that includes a Rajya Sabha berth for the veteran leader and a cabinet position for his son Yathindra.
