Kanpur/IBNS, Aug. 27 -- A two-engine training aircraft crashed in a field near the banks of the Ganges River in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday, killing both the pilot and co-pilot, media reports said.

The deceased have been identified as Sachin Bhatia from Gujarat and Abhishek Pujari from Karnataka. One of them was a trainee pilot, while the other was an instructor.

Kanpur Nagar Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said the instructor had around 3,000 hours of flying experience.

Emergency services and authorities rushed to the crash site soon after the incident.

Officials said the aircraft crashed after losing control. The exact cause of the crash, however, is yet to be determined.
