Indian caregiver killed in Jerusalem; employer's grandson indicted for premeditated murder
India, Aug. 19 -- An Indian caregiver working for an elderly couple in Jerusalem was killed in a violent attack at their residence on July 23, 2026, prompting calls from the Indian community for justice, compensation for his family and stronger safeguards for foreign workers in Israel.
Rajeev Acharya suffered multiple injuries after he was allegedly attacked with a sharp object while working at the couple's home.
Israeli authorities have since filed an indictment against Avior Zaken, identified in a community appeal as the grandson of the elderly couple for whom Acharya worked.
Zaken is in custody as the case proceeds through the Israeli judicial system.
