India, June 24 -- Responding to a requisition from the District Administration, the Indian Army established a 34-metre foot bridge across the Balason River at Dudhia, restoring vital connectivity between Siliguri and Mirik and facilitating access to border crossing points such as Pashupati Phatak.

The newly established foot bridge will enable safe pedestrian movement.

Based on the same requisition, the Army is also working towards launching a wider Bailey Bridge in the near future, which will allow vehicular traffic to pass through. This will help restore tourist movement in the region, which is vital for local livelihoods.
