India's Rs 62,500 crore mobile manufacturing plan: What does the new scheme mean
India, Aug. 24 -- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has notified the Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS) with a budgetary outlay of Rs 62,500 crore to strengthen India's mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem and boost the country's competitiveness in global markets.
The scheme aims to enhance global competitiveness by increasing the scale of mobile phone manufacturing, deepening the domestic supply chain through higher Domestic Value Addition (DVA) and strengthening India's manufacturing capabilities.
The government's Make in India initiative has helped electronics manufacturing grow seven-fold and electronics exports increase eleven-fold since FY 2014-15.
