New Delhi/IBNS, Aug. 15 -- For the first time, 'Vande Mataram' was played during the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort on Saturday, following new guidelines issued by the Union government for the National Song.

The celebrations were led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who delivered his Independence Day address from the iconic Red Fort.

The Army band also performed 'Vande Mataram' after the Prime Minister hoisted the National Flag.
