India, April 1 -- A 19-year-old married woman was allegedly gang-raped by four men inside a van in Rawalpindi, media reports said, once again raising serious concerns over women's safety in the country.

According to a police spokesperson, special teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, and raids are currently underway. The victim has undergone a medical examination, officials confirmed.

An FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother.

As per the complaint cited by Dawn News, the woman had left her home to purchase clothes for her children ahead of Eid and boarded a van from a local market.
