India, May 27 -- Israel has said it targeted Mohammed Odeh, the newly appointed chief of Hamas' armed wing, in a strike in Gaza, media reports said.

According to multiple reports, Odeh was killed in the strike.

An Israeli source confirmed to The Times of Israel and public broadcaster Kan that Odeh had been killed.

According to reports, Odeh was one of the alleged architects of the October 7 attack on Israel. He had reportedly replaced Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who was earlier killed in an Israeli strike.

A security official told YNetNews that Israeli authorities believe Odeh did not survive the strike.
