India, April 26 -- A 31-year-old man, identified by multiple media outlets as Cole Thomas Allen, has been taken into custody following a shooting incident outside the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington, DC.

The event was attended by US President Donald Trump and the first lady.

Stopped at the security checkpoint before entering venue

Investigators said the suspect was intercepted at a security checkpoint before he could reach the ballroom, where nearly 2,500 guests were present.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that officers engaged the suspect after he attempted to push through security.
