India, July 5 -- The Centre has issued a notice to Meta over alleged child sexual exploitation and abuse material (CSEAM) appearing in paid advertisements on Instagram, directing the social media giant to immediately remove such content and explain the lapses, NDTV reported, quoting sources.

According to reports, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has given Meta seven days to submit a detailed response, warning that failure to comply could invite legal action under the Information Technology Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Meta owns both Instagram and Facebook.
