India, Sept. 18 -- Marathi thriller Gondhal has been selected as India's official entry for the Oscars 2027, NDTV reported, citing the Film Federation of India (FFI).

The film will compete in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

Last year, Gondhal director Santosh Davakhar won the Silver Peacock Award at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025.

What is Gondhal about?

During IFFI, Davakhar explained that the film is deeply rooted in Gondhal folklore, a traditional Maharashtrian art form that he described as "a culture slowly disappearing before our eyes."
