India, May 4 -- Tamil Nadu's political landscape witnessed a dramatic shift on Monday as matinee star Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as a major force, leading in 105 seats as counting of Assembly votes continued.

The southern state, long dominated by Dravidian politics and the electoral rivalry between the DMK and AIADMK, appeared to be entering a new political phase.

The AIADMK was leading in 71 seats, according to the latest trends, marking a strong comeback in the tightly contested race.
