Ex-Congress MP and 1984 anti-Sikh riots convict Sajjan Kumar dies while serving life sentence
New Delhi/IBNS, Aug. 20 -- Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, died at a Delhi hospital on Thursday. He was 80.
Kumar, who was serving a life sentence, was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The cause of his death has not yet been clarified.
Kumar was initially acquitted in several cases, but his legal fortunes changed decades later.
In December 2018, the Delhi High Court convicted Kumar and sentenced him to life imprisonment for his role in the killings of five members of a Sikh family in Delhi's Raj Nagar area and the burning of a gurdwara.
He remained in custody following the conviction.
