India, April 22 -- The Election Commission of India on Wednesday issued a notice to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his "terrorist" remark targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his response within 24 hours.

The poll body's action came hours after a delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Ram Meghwal, met the full bench to lodge a formal complaint.

Calling it a serious issue, the Commission said the statement could amount to a breach of the Model Code of Conduct.
