India, July 1 -- At least eight people were killed and 22 others injured after a passenger bus rammed into a truck and caught fire on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan's Dausa district early Wednesday, according to media reports.

The bus, carrying 37 passengers, was travelling from Rishikesh to Indore when the accident occurred at around 3:30 am.

Police, fire brigade personnel and emergency response teams rushed to the spot soon after the crash and launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is underway.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed grief over the tragedy in a post on X.
