India, Oct. 10 -- Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and several other Mamata All India Trinamool Congress (MAITC) leaders were detained in Delhi on Saturday while attempting to join a protest at Jantar Mantar, according to reports.

The detentions came amid heightened political tensions in the national capital over a demonstration led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and other opposition leaders against alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
