India, Aug. 21 -- The Centre has denied political clearance to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his proposed visit to the United States, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) saying the programmes planned there were not considered appropriate for the office he holds and the stated purpose of the trip.

The MEA, however, cleared Reddy's visit to the United Kingdom.

The clarification came after the Telangana Chief Minister's Office announced that Reddy had cancelled the US leg of his foreign tour after the Centre declined permission.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that visits by chief ministers and other dignitaries are assessed before political clearance is granted.
