Ottawa, June 8 -- Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Canadian Armed Forces Day touted record investments in the military, linking higher defence spending and pay raises to growing global security challenges.

The Prime Minister said the government had delivered the largest pay raise for CAF members in a generation and launched what he described as the biggest increase in defence investment in modern Canadian history.

The remarks come as Canada seeks to strengthen its armed forces and boost military readiness in response to rising geopolitical tensions and evolving security threats.

He added that the government's fiscal framework already provides for total defence spending to reach 4% of GDP by the end of the decade.
