Canada's World Cup dream grows as historic win over South Africa caps decade-long football rise
India, July 1 -- Canada reached the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 for the first time in its history after securing a dramatic 1-0 victory over South Africa in Los Angeles, marking a milestone in the country's remarkable football transformation over the past decade.
Eustaquio struck in the second minute of added time, firing home from outside the penalty area sending the co-host nation into the last 16.
Canada dominated much of the contest but struggled to break down a disciplined South African defence until Eustaquio's late breakthrough.
Captain Alphonso Davies made his first appearance of the tournament after recovering from injury, entering in the second half and helping inject pace into Canada's attack.
