Canada eyes big investment in West Bengal after government change, Kalyani Airport on radar
Kolkata/IBNS, July 4 -- Canadian High Commissioner to India Christopher Cooter has said Canada is increasing its engagement with West Bengal, signalling a significant shift following the change in government in the state.
Cooter recently met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to discuss ways to accelerate trade and investment across multiple sectors.
During the meeting, Adhikari sought Canadian investment for the proposed second airport at Kalyani, The Times of India reported.
The greenfield airport project was announced in the new government's inaugural Budget, presented by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta last month.
Speaking to The Times of India, Cooter said Canadian investors may consider the Chief Minister's proposal.
