New Delhi/IBNS, July 30 -- Hockey India has defended its decision to change the colour of the Indian men's and women's national hockey team jerseys after the move triggered widespread criticism, with former captain Viren Rasquinha calling it "embarrassing".

On July 27, Hockey India unveiled the new kit for the men's and women's teams ahead of the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.

The teams will wear saffron jerseys instead of the traditional blue during the tournament, which will be held in the Netherlands and Belgium in August.
