India, May 4 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has taken an early lead as counting of votes for the Assam Assembly elections is underway on Monday.
According to initial trends, the NDA is ahead in 48 seats, while the Congress is leading in 14 constituencies. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has registered a lead in one seat so far.
Vote counting is being conducted across 40 centres spread over 35 districts in the state.
Security arrangements have been significantly strengthened, with 25 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) deployed to secure counting centres and strongrooms across the state.
