Kolkata/IBNS, May 15 -- The RG Kar rape-murder case, which had sent shockwaves across the country, returned to the spotlight on Friday after West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari suspended three IPS officers over their handling of the incident.

Addressing a press conference at Nabanna, Adhikari announced that IPS officers Vineet Goyal, Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta would remain suspended pending a probe into their roles in handling the case.

Goyal, currently serving as the Additional Director-General (ADG) of the Special Task Force (STF), was the Kolkata Police Commissioner when the crime took place.
