India, July 3 -- The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enabled residents to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar App, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.

The free service, available exclusively through the Aadhaar App, came into effect on July 1, 2026, and will remain available for six months, making it easier for residents to keep their Aadhaar details up to date.

The response has been swift, with more than 2.5 lakh residents updating their email addresses within the first two days of the service becoming available.
