Kolkata/IBNS, April 23 -- Sporadic violence marred the voting process during the West Bengal Assembly elections on Thursday, with a mob attacking central forces near a polling station in Birbhum district.
The district, considered a stronghold of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), has often witnessed incidents of political violence.
Additional forces were rushed to the spot, and officials said the situation is now under control.
Tension gripped the area as eyewitnesses reported a sudden blast that disrupted an otherwise steady voting process.
The injured were taken to hospital, though the exact number of those affected was not immediately known.
