Bengal cuts Sourav Ganguly's security detail after fresh threat analysis
India, June 3 -- The West Bengal government has decided to scale down the security cover provided to former India captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly following a fresh review of his threat perception and security requirements.
The decision was taken by the state's security wing as part of a broader reassessment of VIP security arrangements. Ganguly's security had been upgraded from the "Y" category to the higher "Z" category in 2023.
Security review leads to downgrade
Under the earlier "Y" category cover, Ganguly was protected by three Special Branch personnel, while a similar number of police personnel were deployed at his residence in Kolkata's Behala area.
