Bangladesh urges India to 'expedite' Sheikh Hasina's extradition amid rising tensions
India, Aug. 11 -- Bangladesh has urged India to "expedite" the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been living in India since her ouster in 2024, amid renewed tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
The demand was raised during a meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi at the Prime Minister's Office in Dhaka on Monday.
The meeting came days after Hasina held a virtual press conference on August 5, during which she criticised the government led by Rahman, prompting strong objections from Dhaka.
