Dispur/IBNS, March 18 -- A day after quitting the Congress, Nagaon Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi on Wednesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the crucial Assam Assembly elections, media reports said.
Bordoloi joined the ruling party in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who welcomed the move, saying it would "strengthen our party".
The development comes just a month after former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah switched to the BJP after serving the grand old party for nearly three decades, signalling growing churn within the Congress in the state.
