India, May 17 -- Indian PM Narendra Modi received Sweden's Royal Order of Polar Star, Commander Grand Cross, on the first day of his visit to the country in the third leg of his five-nation tour.

This is the country's utmost recognition and honour that can be conferred upon the head of the government.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal further said: " The Prime Minister dedicated the honour to the historic ties between India and Sweden, and described it as a tribute to the warmth and affection shared between the people of India and Sweden."

Earlier in the day, Modi arrived in Sweden after completing his trip to the Netherlands.
