London, July 21 -- Andy Burnham became Britain's new prime minister on Monday after accepting King Charles III's invitation to form a government, pledging to restore political stability, decentralise power and launch what he called the country's biggest reforms in four decades.

Burnham in a statement said that his government would mark a "circuit breaker for Britain" through sweeping political and economic reforms.

Speaking outside 10 Downing Street after returning from Buckingham Palace, Burnham acknowledged growing public frustration with politics and vowed to rebuild trust in government.
