India, June 10 -- The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase 2(A) of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, marking a key expansion of the city's urban transport infrastructure.

The approved corridor spans 6.032 km and includes five stations-four elevated and one underground-namely Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River, Sardar Nagar, and Airport.

With the operationalisation of Phase 2(A), the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro network will expand to a total of 77.63 km of active metro rail connectivity, significantly strengthening intra-city and inter-city mobility.

The total project cost, including interest during construction (IDC), is estimated at Rs.2,169.04 crore.
