India, Aug. 30 -- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gurpreet Singh Gopi was shot dead after armed assailants allegedly chased the motorcycle he was travelling on and opened fire in Punjab's Mamdot town, police said on Saturday.

Gopi was travelling with a man identified as Harpreet when the attackers, who were reportedly travelling in a car, chased them and opened fire.

Gopi sustained gunshot injuries and was killed in the firing, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu.
