Bengaluru/IBNS, July 29 -- Karnataka is taking HIV awareness, counselling and voluntary testing into college campuses following a sharp rise in reported infections among young people, with more than 7,000 students and young adults aged 18 to 25 recently testing positive, according to official data cited in recent reports.

The state government plans to organise Integrated Health Camps (IHCs) across engineering and degree colleges, covering government, aided and private institutions.

The move follows a recommendation from the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS), with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and the Department of Collegiate Education involved in taking the programme forward.
