India, June 24 -- US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that a record 19 million barrels of oil had flowed through the Strait of Hormuz on June 22, adding that the development would help lower oil prices.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: "19 million barrels of oil flowed out of the Hormuz Strait yesterday, an all-time RECORD."

Highlighting the impact on global markets, he added: "Oil prices are tumbling down, and the world is a much safer place!!!"

The development follows months of hardship and distress for thousands of seafarers and comes in the wake of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
