New Delhi/IBNS, May 25 -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday described alleged racist remarks targeting Indians and Indian-Americans as "dumb comments" made by "stupid people" while responding to a journalist during a press briefing in New Delhi.

Rubio was asked about the controversial remarks during a media interaction held as part of his four-day visit to India.

Though the reporter did not mention any specific individual, Rubio strongly criticised such comments.

The US diplomat also stressed the contribution of immigrants to American society.
